The Oakville Choral Society has provided over 44 years of service to the community and David Bowser is our new Choral Director. The Choir performs up to four times per year with a program ranging from Classical to Broadway to Pops.
The choir of 80+ members, possesses a passion for singing, which is always evident in their concerts.
In February of 2000, the choir's outstanding performance featured John Rutter's "Magnificat", performed in a church setting in Oakville. Later that spring, the choir showcased their collective talent in an elaborate performance based on scenes from the great Gilbert and Sullivan works: Pirates of Penzance, HMS Pinafore, The Gondoliers, and The Mikado. The performance featured full costumes as well as choreography. It was a wonderful success!
For the much-celebrated 40th Anniversary of the choir, in April 2001 the group presented two gala performances of Haydn's "The Creation" which was an amazing and grand spectacle.
Later that year, the Christmas concert featured Bach's "Magnificat" in the wonderful tradition that is the group's signature style.
In April 2002, the choir collaborated with Opera Mississauga in a lavish production of Verdi's Aida.
For its Christmas 2002 concert, the choir performed Beethoven's Mass in C Major and also premiered an exciting new work specially commissioned by the choir - The Beasts at the Manger, by William Whitla and William Westcott.
In May 2003, the choir again demonstrated its versatility with 'Showtune Spectacular', a wonderful cabaret-style show featuring excerpts from many popular musicals such as 'The King & I' and 'The Music Man'.
The choir rehearses each Tuesday evening from September to May at Sheridan College, Trafalgar Road Campus in Oakville - new members are always welcome and encouraged - rehearsals are full of fun, camaraderie, learning and, of course, enthusiastic SINGING!
